Black Pastor: Obama ‘Deceived America,’ Hurt ‘the American Family’
Black Pastor: Obama ‘Deceived America,’ Hurt ‘the American Family’

(CNSNews.com) - Speaking at the March for Marriage rally in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, Rev. Bill Owens, president of the Coalition of African American Pastors, said President Obama “deceived America” on the gay marriage issue and hurt America and “the American family.”

“When President Obama was running for president, I had some friends in the gay community who informed me that he was going to say that he was for marriage between a man and a woman in his first term to get elected but he would take the issue up in his second term, and that’s what he did. So first of all, he deceived America,” Owens said.

“And you must fear no man. I fear no man. I got a lot of criticism, a lot of hate mail for opposing Obama. Obama is a black American, but his father is an African, and I think he thinks he can be a king like they have in Africa, but America don’t have kings,” said Owens. “We have a president, and I stand against Mr. Obama very much today. He’s on the wrong track, and he has hurt America and the American family.”

Owens also criticized Obama over transgender bathroom policies that allow people to use the bathroom based on the gender they identify with instead of their biological gender.

“Only a sick man - I mean sick in his mind - would promote a program that men can go in women’s restrooms. Only a sick man would promote that,” he said.

“The forces will be with you if you stand up. Refuse to obey an unjust law,” Owens urged supporters.

“You don’t have to be important. You don’t have to be a preacher. You don’t have to be a doctor. You don’t have to be rich, but you can do your part, and you never know when God will step in and stand by you and you make a difference,” he said.

“I’m going to challenge black America to stand up. We let Obama and the gay community take what black people marched and worked for, died for, beaten for, and called this civil rights. It’s not a civil right. It’s a civil wrong, and I call all men of all colors to protect your wife, protect your mother, protect your daughter,” Owens said.

“Don’t let them get away with men coming in women’s restrooms. We have enough perverts. We have enough crazy people, and they will abuse our families,” he said.

The March for Marriage is an annual rally organized by the National Organization for Marriage, which supports traditional marriage between a man and a woman.

Along with Owens, other speakers included Brian Brown, president of National Organization for Marriage; Frank Schubert, national political director of National Organization for Marriage; Tim Chapman, COO for Heritage Action for America; Jennifer Marshall, president of the Institute for Family, Community and Opportunity at the Heritage Foundation; and Rev. John Oliver from the Orthodox Christian Church of the United States of America.

COMMENTARY: America, We've Been Warned
COMMENTARY: America, We've Been Warned

Have you ever heard the phrase, "Don't say you haven't been warned"? In a day where false alarms, exaggerated warnings and intentional scare tactics are used by a deceptive culture, it's sometimes difficult to separate true warnings from deceptive false alarms. So how do you know?

When God warns, it's real, and we'd better sit up and take notice. In the Bible, the word "woe" or warning is used nearly 100 times—98 to be exact. The Old Testament prophets used it. Christ used it many times Himself. The word occurs in the Book of Revelation in final judgment. In nearly every case where a woe is given, the warning of judgment is certain, and God's punishment imminent.

For example, Noah warned the people for 100 years of a coming flood. The people heard. They considered. They rejected. They died. God gives us warnings so that we might live.

Then in Isaiah Chapter 5, God's prophet pronounced six specific warnings of imminent judgment against identified national sins. These woes were sobering, the sins specific and God's judgment certain. The message was to Israel, but the application is for America.

The first woe identified the sin of materialism. After God blessed the nation with security, wealth, houses and productive land, the people turned their back on Him. The result? God withheld His blessings, removed His protection, allowed rebellion within and threats of attack from without. Does this sound anything like America today?

The second woe is found in Isaiah 5:11, identified the sin of hedonism. Consumed with an intoxicating addiction to alcohol, drugs, entertainment and partying, the nation willfully rejected God and the consequences of evil choices. Again, sound like America?

Thirdly, Isaiah 5:18 identifies the horrible practice of literally promoting sin and evil. Without regard for God or moral truth, the nation dreamed of evil, sinned without remorse and even belittled God by profaning His name and His truth.

Isaiah 5:20 tells of the fourth woe—the sin of moral relativism. Even more dangerous is when a nation redefines moral truth into moral evil. This is accomplished by discarding the Ten Commandments as dangerous, killing the unborn through abortion, redefining marriage between two men or two women, and much more. Have these redefinitions been made in America? Yes—all have!

The fifth woe outlined in Isaiah 5:21 is the sin of arrogance and corruption. God hates pride because it embodies the sin of satanic defiance against God. Through pride, mankind pronounces himself to be God, which results in the rejection of God and eternal life.

Lastly, Isaiah pronounced the sixth woe by identifying the sin of corrupted leadership that is fueled by dependence on alcohol and drug addictions. He warned: Woe unto the political and military leaders who through addiction become bribed and incapable of sound judgment.

What is the result of continually ignoring God's true warnings? Isaiah 5:24 says that God's love will be turned to anger, His blessings will turn to judgment, murder and death of the people will increase, enemy nations will threaten to attack—suddenly and overwhelmingly—and all trusted defenses will fail.

It happened to Israel. It will happen to America if we don't soon change our ways. It's past time to look to God, repent and beg His mercy.

The similarities of the six woes in Isaiah Chapter 5 and how they relate to America today are astounding. What will we do to heed God's warnings? Will we claim ignorance and say we were never warned?

While God is full of mercy, His justice will prevail. When God warns, we'd better listen because time eventually runs out. God has been warning America. America doesn't care. Do you?

Human Smuggling Attempt Busted near Texas Border -- Six Arrested
Human Smuggling Attempt Busted near Texas Border -- Six Arrested

Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents disrupted a complex human smuggling incident involving multiple vehicles. The interdiction of the vehicles led to the arrests of six suspected human smugglers and 14 Mexican migrants, according to a Friday announcement.

Brackettville Station Border Patrol agents received information on October 24 from a 911 call regarding a vehicle believed to be picking up migrants on a remote roadway, according to Del Rio Sector officials. This is a common human smuggling tactic after migrants are marched through ranches around inland immigration checkpoints.

The agents responded to the remote area near Brackettville, Texas, and observed the reported white Ford F-250 pickup described by the caller. The agents began to follow the truck which then attempted to speed away.

Following a short pursuit, the driver drove off the road and the occupants attempted to flee on foot. Agents conducted a search of the area and found the driver, a 34-year-old U.S. citizen from Austin, Texas. They also found six migrant males.

A search of the truck also revealed a seventh migrant who the smuggler locked in the truck’s toolbox. The migrant had no means of escape in the event of a crash or being abandoned by smugglers, officials stated.

A short time later, the agents conducted a traffic stop on a 2015 black Jeep Patriot in the same vicinity as the earlier incident. Agents interviewed the driver, a 20-year-old female, and her passenger, a 20-year-old male. Both were determined to be U.S. citizens from Georgetown and Austin, Texas, respectively.

Agents identified the woman and man as being scouts for the smuggling incident and placed them under arrest, officials stated.

The investigation continued into the evening when agents found a third vehicle believed to be associated with the human smuggling conspiracy. The agents stopped a white 2012 Dodge 1500 pickup truck. During an immigration interview, the agents identified the driver and front-seat passenger as U.S. citizens from San Marcos, Texas, officials reported.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two illegal immigrants concealed on the floor of the passenger compartment. The agents arrested the two U.S. citizens and the two migrants. An investigation identified one of the illegal aliens as the foot-guide for the operation.

“These criminal organizations are concerned only with the substantial profits they stand to gain, and won’t hesitate to utilize methods that imperil the lives of those they smuggle,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “Our agents, through superior communication and superb teamwork, were able to stop this multi-layered attempt to smuggle illegal aliens into our country.”

Officials identified all 14 of the foreign nationals as Mexican males. The agents turned the six human smugglers and 14 migrants over to ICE Homeland Security Investigations agents for further investigation and possible referral for prosecution.

Officials seized all three vehicles used in the alleged smuggling conspiracy.

It all started when I was in kindergarten. There was a kid in my neighborhood named Carter. (He was a year older than I was.) I remember him kissing me one day while we were playing. Just a peck on the lips. It startled me, but we laughed it off and I didn't think anything of it. A few months went by and that lead to exploring other areas of our bodies.

... As I began to mature, I developed attraction to the same sex. This lead to me explore my sexuality and try things with other guys. Before I knew it, I had fully opened a door, walked through it and heard it lock behind me. I had allowed the devil to trap me into a mess.

... The last night of youth camp I found myself standing in the back of the room. A longtime friend named Mikayela came up next to me. She noticed that the Holy Spirit was doing something in my heart. She knew the struggles I had walked through. She asked me, "Grayson. Are you ready to leave this mess here?" I said, "Yes" ...

In a postmodern culture obsessed with feelings and political correctness, the Church must stop apologizing for “the way that God thinks and acts and what He says is right and wrong,” Francis Chan recently said.

During a Q&A session at the 2019 Church Leaders Conference, held at the Zacharias Institute in Alpharetta, Georiga, Chan explained that in today’s culture, the pervasive mentality is that “we’re all fighting for our rights.”

“And these are real things, real pain, real feelings that we feel,” he said ... But amid the push to be inclusive and understanding, Chan said “one of the most important passages for our generation” is Isaiah 55:8-9 ...

"The family is especially under attack," stated Pope John Paul II, August 15, 1993. In 1979, Pope John Paul II appointed West African Archbishop Robert Sarah of Guinea. Archbishop Robert Sarah was appointed Cardinal in 2010.

On September 1, 2010, Cardinal Sarah rejected Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi's call for Europe to become Muslim as being disrespectful of all of Catholic Italy and the Pope: "To speak of the European continent converting to Islam makes no sense because it is the people alone who decide consciously to be Christian, Muslim or to follow other religions."

Cardinal Robert Sarah stated in his synod on the family, October 12, 2015: "Like two 'apocalyptic beasts' located on opposite poles: on the one hand, the idolatry of Western freedom; on the other ...

Ever since the divide of the Western and Eastern branches of Christianity in the 11th century, two of the greatest fears of once-united Christendom have been realized: fragmentation and division. Even in the 16th century, when Martin Luther’s protest against the Roman Catholic Church’s abuses sparked the Protestant Reformation, leaders hoped there would be only a few major expressions of the body of Christ. Never in their wildest dreams did the reformers envision all the denominations and various branches and networks of Christianity that have evolved since then. The end results have provided an opportunity for ...

Edward Luce, the American Editor for the Financial Times, penned this article, which chronicles his visit to Lakewood Church, the most significant temple to the prosperity gospel in America. Luce marshals all his prowess and analytical skill to craft this insightful article—a story that explores the friction between the prosperity gospel of Joel Osteen and the historic, orthodox Christian faith.

Luce’s report not only details what is present in prosperity theology, but what is absent. He attended a men’s support meeting and wrote, “Optimism, hope, destiny, harvest, bounty—these are Lakewood’s buzzwords. Prosperity too.” Then, he reveals the glaring absence of crucial theological terms

When it comes to mixing politics and religion, New York's most prominent Catholic leader says it's a must. “A public square where religious values are absent is perilous,” Cardinal Timothy Dolan of the Archdiocese of New York told "WSJ at Large" host Gerry Baker on FOX Business on Friday.

As we move closer to the 2020 presidential election, political and religious controversies dominate headlines. From gay marriage, abortion and contraception, to divorce and the sanctity of marriage, many in the U.S. find the Church’s position irrelevant or harmful and offensive. But Cardinal Dolan believes that those negative perspectives are "caricatures of the Church” which need to be replaced by ...

I just read an interesting article by one pastor and very important author, and he said, “It’s interesting. Jesus famously said, “Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” He didn’t say, “I’ll make you fishers of fallacies.” And those of you who are steeped in apologetics, I want you to get the point. In other words, Jesus is calling us to save people, to be fishers of men, not just fishers of fallacies in order to win arguments ...

Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys filed a lawsuit in federal court Friday against Washington state officials for forcing churches to pay for elective abortions in their health insurance plans. ADF attorneys represent Cedar Park Assembly of God in the federal suit, challenging the constitutionality and legality of a new state mandate that requires the Seattle-area church to fund abortion if it provides its staff members access to group health insurance.

“No church should be coerced to pay for abortions, least of all a church that dedicates its ministry to protecting and celebrating life,” said ADF Legal Counsel Elissa Graves. “Cedar Park believes and teaches that every human life begins at conception and is worthy of protection at every point until natural death. Further still, Cedar Park demonstrates ...

Much of the Body of Christ today merely thinks about renewal, revival, awakening, and manifestations of God’s power when they think of the Holy Spirit’s function. Although we would all love to speak about revival and renewal in the church, we have to realize that the Holy Spirit has many other significant functions that are vital to both the church and world. Case in point, an often overlooked function of the Holy Spirit in today’s Charismatic Churches is His assignment to bring conviction in the hearts of people.

Many preachers are merely trying to encourage, motivate, and inspire their congregation — when often times the Holy Spirit desires to bring conviction to their church because ...

As I write, the television set in this motel room is running the results of last night’s Iowa caucuses. At some point I noticed something about the [male] candidates for nomination for president. All were wearing suits and white shirts and ties. Why?

... At the same time, drop in on the typical church and you may be stunned to see that the fellow who looks like a hitchhiker just in from a day on the highway turns out to be the preacher ... Some in the congregation actually take pride in the sloppiness of the preacher’s attire.

At one point, the call for pastors to “dress down” was well-intentioned, I will grant ... But that trend has run its course in my judgment. In fact, it has flat run in the ditch.

The latest tax on nonprofits has many churches and ministries wondering if it applies to them. Most nonprofit organizations have parking lots, and many churches have reserved parking spaces for the church pastor or first time visitors. Although it’s a small gesture, reserving parking for first time visitors can have a positive impact on a visitor’s experience. However, the latest tax on parking lots may have some churches rethinking its use.

Under the Tax Cuts and Job Act, nonprofit organizations like churches, colleges, hospitals, ministries, and others may be responsible to pay ...

The relationship between church members and their pastor is special. Pastors often serve long hours and make themselves available at a moment’s notice in times of need. It is common for members to show honor and recognition to their pastors by giving a love offering.

Many churches and pastors alike fail to understand how to appropriately account for those love offerings. With good intentions, members give a love offering thinking their gift is precisely that— a gift ... But the IRS doesn’t view love offerings in the same way. Two pastors in Minnesota recently learned about taxable income the hard way.

My generation of believers loves the idea of radical Christianity. It’s edgy, compromises everything, it’s dangerously transparent and it’s simple. Phrases like “I just want Jesus” are its slogan—its very breath. Verses are tattooed on our backs, and Greek words are penned into our wrists and biceps. Our sweatshop-free clothes are ripped and dirty. Our coffee is fair-trade. Our books are doctrine-heavy and well-worn. And maybe we’ll even have a drink or a cigar here and there over a deep theological conversation.

... This kind of Christianity is dangerously cool. And that’s the thing…it’s dangerous ...

The recent action by the boards of two organizations that have been nationally visible as representing conservative evangelicals is “The Great Evangelical Sellout” for a number of critical reasons, not the least of which is wrongfully capitulating to one of the most deceptive straw men of modern cultural and politics. For years I have seen and heard Ray Comfort and the Living Waters team going out onto the streets proclaiming the gospel. Often, we see them jeered and mocked as they lovingly answer critics and point to hope in Christ. I watched Ray’s latest movie, “The Fool,” and I was greatly encouraged by how Ray used the way he was mocked for even more ministry zeal.

How do people exhibit so much confidence in what they are doing that their motivation increases when they face opposition and accusation? If you asked Ray, you may find a similar answer to what you might get simply by reading Paul’s letters to the church at Corinth. Paul answers his own critics by

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Tom Perez on Wednesday complained that voters are influenced by what they hear in church on Sundays. Perez claimed that Republicans have an advantage because “people buy” what they hear at church.

“And we all have to make sure that we’re fluent in what’s happening across our ecosystem so we can come to each other’s defense because we need to build a bigger orchestra. They’ve had a big orchestra for some time and they’ve got the megaphones to amplify it, whether it’s Sinclair at the local level or Fox at the national level,” Perez said at an event for Demand Justice, a left-wing political group.

Spiritually active Christians who hold politically conservative views believe that churches should be more involved in the political process. In particular, they are eager for their pastors to teach them what the Bible says about today’s social and political issues. While most conservative churches have provided some biblical teaching on current issues to congregants, it clearly has not satisfied the appetite of those adults. In fact, a majority of these church-goers said it is extremely or very important for their church to teach them biblical truths related to each of the 22 different issues studied in this research!

However, the survey of pastors revealed that most conservative pastors ...

A mega-pastor of one of the largest “evangelical” churches in the U.S. is attacking the Old Testament again, this time insisting Jesus rendered the Ten Commandments null and void, issuing one new law “as a replacement for everything.”

Andy Stanley, pastor of the 34,000-member North Point Community Church in suburban Atlanta, who famously advised his flock to “unhitch” from the Old Testament in a sermon last spring, has now penned an article promoting his new book saying laws such as “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” and “Thou shalt not kill” are no longer relevant to Christians living in the New Covenant era.

Pastors, elected officials, candidates and community leaders gathered at Houston’s First Baptist Church on September 13 for a briefing on a proposition being voted on – again – by City of Houston citizens that proposes a “lock box” for drainage fee revenues.
