
In the first third of the 18th century, Europe continued to experience various wars, Russia began to pivot toward Europe under Peter the Great, the English and Scots agreed to a combined government called Great Britain and (in effect) its first prime minister emerged in government.
Meanwhile among the British colonies in America, various developments of government and literature took place. The colony of Pennsylvania developed its documents concerning liberties and Georgia its first charter (both of these quoted in previous post). The royal government officially permitted the division of the Carolina colony into north and south Carolina in 1729. Thus the complete 13 original colonies were in place that would unite for independence over 40 years later.
