Tarrant County Accepts Ten Commandments Monument Gift

The Tarrant County Commissioners Court voted three to one to accept the donation of a Ten Commandments monument from the American History & Heritage Foundation (AHHF).

Commissioner Alisa Simmons (D-Pct. 2) voted against the motion. Commissioner Roderick Miles was absent from the meeting due to sickness.

The monument is to be placed on the grounds of the 1895 historic courthouse in downtown Fort Worth, and would be similar to the Ten Commandments monument that has been on the grounds of the Texas Capitol since 1961. The cost of placement and upkeep will be borne by AHHF.

The gift also includes 30 posters featuring the motto “In God We Trust” that will be placed in various county facilities, to be determined at a later date.

Commissioner Matt Krause (R-Pct. 3) raised the matter for consideration by the commissioners court.
